Last month I finally got why audiobooks count for book club
I used to push back when someone said they 'read' a book by listening, but my buddy Mark drove 14 hours straight to Ohio for work and finished half of Shogun on audio. He showed up to our meeting with more solid takes than anyone who actually flipped pages. Has anyone else changed their stance on this after a road trip or commute?

Tbh I listened to the full Dune audiobook last year during a week of yard work and it completely flipped my view. I used to think audio was just background noise, but the narrator did all the voices and made the politics way easier to follow than when I tried reading it in high school. Honestly, the only thing I miss is being able to flip back to check a character name, but you can just rewind 30 seconds instead. My buddy Mark is right about road trips too, I did 10 hours with The Martian and felt like I’d lived it. Ngl, if someone finishes a book that long and can talk about the themes, that’s reading in my book now.
