I gave up on trying to get everyone to read the whole book before our meeting
For two years, I pushed our club to finish every page, but half the group would show up silent or make excuses. Last month, I suggested we just read the first 100 pages and discuss those, with the option to keep going. The debate about the opening of 'Project Hail Mary' was the best we've had in ages, because everyone actually had something to say. It turns out a focused talk on a smaller section beats a scattered chat about a whole book most people skimmed. Has anyone else switched to a partial-read format and found it worked better?

Applies to most meetings, honestly.

Honestly @allen.ivan, I get the feeling but is it really that bad? Most meetings I sit through are just quick check-ins. People act like every meeting is some huge waste of time, but half of them are just 15 minutes to get everyone on the same page. It feels like a thing people just say to sound busy. Maybe some jobs have awful meetings, but calling it "most" seems like a stretch.
