I finally switched from sticky notes to a whiteboard for tracking book club votes

For the last two years I kept a stack of neon sticky notes on my coffee table to tally votes for our monthly reads. Last week I had 17 notes scattered around and one blew off into the trash can under the fan. I missed a tiebreaker vote between two books because I could not find that note. My wife grabbed a 3x5 whiteboard from her office and now I just write down the choices and erase after we pick. Has anyone else switched their tracking method after something dumb like a lost note ruined a vote?

Honestly, is losing a sticky note for a book club vote really that big of a deal? Tbh it sounds like a two-second fix, not a whole system upgrade.

I had the exact same thing happen with my DnD group's scheduling. I used to keep a little notebook but someone's dog chewed up the page with the session votes on it and we had to delay a whole campaign arc because nobody could remember what we voted on. I grabbed a small dry erase board from the dollar store and now I just keep it on the fridge with a magnet. It saves so much headache and honestly it looks cleaner than my old pile of crumpled papers. I also take a quick photo of it every time we finalize something just in case.

Oh man, the "lost note under the fan" thing really got me. I once had a whole weeks worth of meal planning notes get sucked behind the fridge and I didn't find them until I moved out of that apartment. The whiteboard is a huge upgrade (my wife actually bought me a magnetic one for the kitchen) because you can just snap a photo of it before erasing if you want a record. I still use sticky notes for quick grocery lists but anything important gets the board treatment now.
