Got called out for always picking the shortest book in my club

Someone in my group told me I was missing the whole point by choosing based on page count instead of what the book actually said. Now I actually read the summary and sample chapters before voting instead of just flipping to the last page number.

Buddy of mine got roasted for reading cliff notes instead of the actual book.

Three weeks ago I caught my neighbor's kid watching a 10 minute YouTube summary of Moby Dick for his English project. Thing is, that's basically how a lot of grown folks handle stuff too... people read the executive summary at work or watch the highlights reel of a big game instead of sitting through the whole thing. We're all kind of doing cliff notes on life these days, picking the shortcuts because there's just too much to dig into. Your buddy just happened to get caught, but half the people roasting him probably skimmed something important that same week.
