No way, they were skipping the awkward parts? That's kind of the whole point of a book club lol. I can't imagine just glossing over the stuff that makes everyone squirm. What books were you reading that had so many cringe moments? Getting them to actually discuss it must have been a real struggle. Huge win for sure, now your meetings are probably way more honest.

You're right about the awkward parts being the point, @janac22. I read that many clubs skip tough scenes because people worry about causing offense. It totally misses why we read books together in the first place. Getting past that fear is a big deal for any group. When you do, the conversations actually mean something.

Ngl, calling it a "big deal" to get past fear in book club feels over the top. Most groups skip tough scenes because they just want a relaxed chat, not heavy drama. Making every meeting so meaningful sounds like a lot of pressure for just reading books.
