Changed my mind about 'The Goldfinch' after hitting page 400

I was ready to throw that 770 page brick against the wall at page 250, but then the section in Las Vegas clicked for me around page 400. Seeing how the characters stumbled through their lives without any tidy redemption made me realize the length was the point, not a flaw. Has anyone else had a doorstopper novel suddenly click for them after a slow grind?.

Totally agree, it took me forever to get through but the payoff was so worth it.

The slow burn is real but man does it pay off. I almost gave up around chapter 200 but then the plot twist hit and I was glued to my phone for the next two days straight. There's that one scene with the main character's backstory reveal that just changes everything you thought you knew. Definitely one of those stories where you appreciate the slog once you see how all those small details come together at the end.
