A guy at my library book club last month said he skips every chapter with the wife's diary entries in 'Dracula'

That's such a specific thing to skip, but it tracks. People seem to get weirdly impatient with any part of a story that isn't straight action or dialogue. Those diary chapters are slow, but they build all the dread. Cutting them out just turns it into a monster chase.

Ever feel like we're all just skipping to the monster chase in our own lives? I know I do.

Kelly385 is right about the dread building up. You gotta read the slow parts to really feel the chase later.
