Went with a fiber disk over a flap wheel for the first time in Tulsa
Been running flap wheels for years on 5 inch grinders, but this job at a grain silo in Tulsa needed a flatter finish on some 1/2 inch plate. Grabbed a fiber disk from a local supplier, 36 grit, and it cut way cleaner with less heat on the welds. Took maybe 20 minutes less on each seam than my usual setup. Anyone else switch and stick with it, or do you go back and forth depending on the metal?

That 36 grit fiber disk bit about cutting cleaner with less heat caught my eye. My buddy runs a fab shop down in Joplin and he swore by flap wheels forever, then he tried a fiber disk on some stainless handrails and now he won't touch anything else. Says it's the only way he gets a decent finish without burning the metal.
