Wasted $600 on a so-called 'diamond blade' from a flea market vendor

I was at the flea market over near Gary back in May and this guy was selling blades for half price. Said they were top grade, made in Germany, all that. Took one home and tried it on a 3/8 inch plate job we had lined up. That blade barely got through the first foot before it started smoking and lost all its teeth. I should have known better than to buy from a guy with a card table and a handshake. Has anyone else got burned by those traveling tool sellers at swap meets?

Gotta disagree with you on this one. I've bought plenty of blades from flea market guys and some of them are legit. My old man taught me to always ask for a demo cut on the spot before handing over cash. If they won't cut a piece of scrap metal right there, you walk. Also a 3/8 inch plate is pretty thick stuff, even a good blade can overheat if you're not using enough coolant or if your saw speed is off. Did you check if that blade was actually rated for that thickness or did you just go by the price tag?

Kinda feels like you're making a bigger deal out of flea market blades than it really is, man.

Yeah, because I really trust a guy selling blades out of a rusty van to know anything about coolant ratios.
