Tried a cheap harbor freight angle grinder on a 12-hour shift. Burns up in the first 2 hours.
Grabbed one of those $15 grinders for a quick weld cleanup. Figured it'd last a day or two. 2 hours in smoke started pouring out the vents. Smelled like burnt plastic and motor. Learned the hard way - spend the extra 40 bucks on a Dewalt or Makita. Anybody else kill a cheap tool on a tough job?

Did you run it on some heavy duty grinding or mostly just light wire wheel stuff? I killed a cheap one doing nothing but wire wheeling rust off some fence panels, figured it would be fine but the bearings cooked themselves in under an hour. Just curious if these things die from real abuse or just looking at them wrong.

You had exactly the same thing happen? Man I burned through a cheap one doing nothing but light wire wheel work on some old patio furniture. Bearings went in like 20 minutes, thought I was being gentle too.
