Spent $450 on a new welding hood and it nearly cost me a job

Bought a Miller Digital Elite last month because my old hood was fogging up. First day wearing it on a boiler patch near Portland, the auto-dark kept flickering in the sun. Had to borrow a buddy's passive hood to finish the weld. Anyone else have issues with these fancy auto-dark hoods on outdoor work?

Stick with the passive hoods outside, they just work better.

Three passive hoods have straight up saved my kitchen from a grease fire disaster. Seriously, it's such a relief to have something that just works without me having to think about it.
