Spent $200 on a fancy welding hood that sucked

Bought a top-of-the-line auto-darkening hood online last month and it fogged up on me every single weld. Went back to my old $80 Jackson and haven't had a problem since. Anyone else get burned by a pricey hood that couldn't handle real work?

Skip the marketing hype and look at the actual lens quality instead of the brand name. My buddy dropped $350 on a big brand hood and it gave him headaches from the optics being trash on low amp tig. Price tags just mean better margins for the company, not necessarily better performance for you.

That $200 hood might have had cheap electronics in it. My experience is the mid-range stuff from companies like Miller or Lincoln is usually the sweet spot for the money.
