Old timer at the union hall told me to stop using my grinder for everything
I was out in Gary last week on a tank job and this guy named Pete walks up and says I'm ruining my prep by using a grinder on every weld. He made me grab a wire brush and go at it by hand, and the test pass came out way cleaner. Has anyone else had an old-timer call them out on something you thought was standard?

Seems like a lot of fuss over a grinder. Maybe you got a little heavy with it, but it's not like it's ruined. Pete sounds like he means well but it's probably fine.

Reminds me of people who think cracking an egg perfectly means they're a chef.

I mean, I used to kind of roll my eyes at posts like this, but @henrycooper your line about "it's not like it's ruined" actually changed my mind. I had a friend borrow my espresso setup once and tightened the portafilter way too hard, and it did mess up the alignment over time. So yeah, maybe it is worth a little fuss if you don't want to end up with a finicky machine later.
