Old foreman said I was wasting time with flap discs on stainless

Started a job last month at a fab shop in Toledo and this guy told me to ditch the flap discs and just use ceramic belts on a portable belt sander. Thought he was crazy since I've always used flap discs for blending welds on stainless tanks. Tried his way on a 304 tank seam and finished in half the time with a cleaner finish. Now I feel dumb for fighting against it for two days. Anyone else have an old timer give you advice that made you eat crow?

Man, I was the same way for years. Flap discs were my go to for everything stainless because that's what everyone showed me. Then an old timer at a job site handed me a belt sander with a ceramic belt and told me to just try it on a weld seam. I fought him on it for like twenty minutes before I finally gave in. After that first pass I just stood there quiet for a second because I couldn't believe how much faster and smoother it was. Definitely ate a big piece of crow that day too.

Funny how fighting a new way usually just means you weren't ready to be wrong yet.
