Just blew $180 on a cheap welding hood from Amazon

The auto-darkening gave out after 3 weeks of real work. Now I'm stuck buying a real one - anyone else learn this lesson the hard way or is it just me?

Can't believe you dropped 180 bucks on an Amazon welding hood in the first place. That's almost enough for a halfway decent used Miller or Jackson off Craigslist. Cheap auto-darkening is basically a gamble with your eyesight.

Oh man, that reminds me of my buddy Tom who bought a "pro grade" hood off some sketchy Facebook ad for like 60 bucks. Showed up at the shop first day with it, looked like something from a sci-fi movie. First weld he tried to run, the lens just stayed dark the whole time. He's standing there blind as a bat, waving his hands around like it's gonna reset. Had to lead him to the break room by the elbow. We still give him crap about it three years later.
