Finally got my pressure vessel ticket after failing the weld test twice

Failed it in Edmonton last year, then again in March... passed on the third try in my hometown shop last week. Anyone else have a cert that took a few swings to get right?

Three tries for the weld test? That's brutal man.

And honestly three tries is generous compared to some shops I've seen where you get one shot and you're out. I've watched guys bomb the first weld test and then nail it on the second try with just a tiny adjustment to their travel speed. The whole pass/fail thing really comes down to whether the inspector is having a good day or not.

Does the inspector actually check your settings before the test or just stare at you?
