Caught my boot on fire tightening a manway stud

Last Tuesday I was up on a scaffold at a tank farm outside Baton Rouge tightening a manway stud when my torch slipped off the preheat and lit my boot lace. I didn't feel it until the smoke hit my nose, and by then the lace was gone and the leather was smoking pretty good. I dropped the wrench and stomped around like a fool until the foreman threw a bucket of water up at me, soaked from head to toe. The boot held up fine after a rinse, but my pride took the hit. Anyone else ever set something on fire that was way too close to your own skin? How did you explain it to the safety guy?
