Brazing won me over for custom boiler work
I used to stick to welding for everything. A friend's clean repair job on a vintage unit showed me brazing has its place.

Isn't the learning curve easier? It's way more forgiving on thin, messed up metal than trying to weld it. That's what really sold me on it.

Honestly, a good flux is key for that thin stuff, just like @emma_clark found with her boiler to avoid warping.

Oh man, I was totally in the welding-only camp before too. I had this old boiler at my dad's place that was just a hot mess of thin, pitted metal. Tried to weld a patch and it just made things worse. Then a guy brazed in a new section and it sealed up perfect, no warping at all. Totally changed my mind on what method to use. I'm sold on it now for that kind of fix.
