Boiler plant tour at the old grain mill caught my eye

Went through the retired AGP mill in Omaha last Thursday with a few guys from the hall. The way they set up those water wall tubes in the 1940s was wild, all hand rolled and riveted, still holding shape after 80 years. Makes me wonder how much longer we'll see riveted work like that, or if it's all welded patch jobs now. Has anyone else toured an old plant and spotted something that made you question modern repair methods?

Man, honestly I gotta push back on the riveted stuff being some lost art. Those old joints were a pain to keep tight, and half the reason they lasted is they got replaced with welded sections decades ago when leaks showed up. Welding’s not a patch job, it’s the upgrade, and modern inspection tools catch issues way before a rivet seam ever would. That old mill’s a cool museum piece, but I’d take a clean weld over hand rolled history any day.
