Back when I started fitting tube, I'd spend 20 minutes setting up a fancy laser every single time
Now I just grab a soapstone and eyeball it with a speed square, gets me within an 1/8th inch on a 40-foot section. Anyone else ditch all the high tech gear for old school methods?

Ngl I switched from digital levels to a basic torpedo level years ago.

You're talking about a 1/8th inch on 40 feet like that's good. Is it really that serious though? I mean if you're just doing basic residential work who cares. But on commercial jobs that kind of slop adds up fast. @oliver_morgan ditched the digital level which is fine for plumb and level checks. But guys get too casual with layouts. I've seen guys eyeball a whole run and then wonder why the back outlet tee doesn't line up. Old school methods work if you're consistent. But most guys aren't consistent. They just get lazy and blame the material.

50 feet of DWV and you're off by a half inch at the end, that's a weekend of cutting and glueing trying to get that last fitting to drop in. Seen a guy tape his tape measure to the joist and call it good, then act surprised when his shower drain is an inch off the center. Old school tools work fine, but only if the guy holding them actually gives a damn.
