Always thought a 4-inch grinder was fine for bevel prep, but a 7-inch changed my whole week.

I was working on some 1-inch plate last week and kept burning through 4-inch discs. My foreman, Pete, handed me his 7-inch Milwaukee and said to try it. The bigger disc covered more area in one pass and didn't load up as fast. I finished the bevels on that joint in half the time. Anyone else made a switch like that on heavy plate work?

Ever think the smaller tool was enough? That 7-inch grinder is a game changer for thick plate.

Honestly @morganhill, isn't it crazy how we always want the bigger tool? I read a forum post where a guy said his 4.5 inch grinder just couldn't keep up on heavy steel. You're totally right about needing that extra power sometimes.

Cracked up reading this because I just did the exact same thing last week. @morganhill I felt like a fool dragging my little 4-inch around on half-inch plate while the 7-inch just chewed through it like butter. Now I'm looking at that bigger grinder in my cart and wondering why I spent years fighting with the small one. My arms are sore from the extra weight but man, the time savings are worth it.
