Wasted $60 on a deluxe Kickstarter edition of a game I'll never play
Saw a cool Kickstarter for a space trading game with fancy miniatures. Backed the $60 deluxe tier without checking reviews first. Got the box 6 months later and the rules are a mess, takes 4 hours for a 2 player game. Tried once and gave up halfway through. Anyone else get burned by a Kickstarter that looked good but played awful?

Tried once and gave up halfway through" - man, that hit me right in the wallet. I backed a similar space game called "Nebula Empires" or something, the miniatures looked SO cool on the Kickstarter page. Got the box, opened it up, and the rulebook was this giant wall of text that made zero sense. We spent like an hour just setting up and gave up before we even finished the first turn. 60 bucks down the drain for a box of pretty plastic that I'm probably going to sell for half price just to clear shelf space. It's such a bummer because you get all hyped up by those fancy renders and then reality hits you like a brick.

Question it though, is it really that big of a deal? I mean yeah, losing 60 bucks stings, but its not like you were gonna retire on a board game. You got a cool looking box and some minis that maybe you can use for something else down the line. The hype cycle of kickstarter is real but honestly, that hour you spent setting up probably gave you more of a story to tell than if it had actually worked. 60 bucks for a funny memory plus some plastic is sort of a win in my book.
