Switched to notecard style GM'ing after 8 years of bullet point notes

I used to write out full session scripts for D&D with bullet points for every encounter, but last month I tried using 3x5 notecards with just a few key words and prompts instead. It forced me to improvise more and the game felt way more alive when I wasn't flipping pages to find the right line. Has anyone else tried scaling back their prep work and found it actually improved the game?

Did you find it helped you remember the rules better without looking things up constantly?

For sure @kevin_harris78, that's a solid point. It's rough when you're fumbling through a game every other turn.

Yeah, @evan_burns95 I totally found that. After I played a few rounds without checking the book every time, stuff stuck way better in my head.
