Settlers of Catan went from fun to fighting in 10 minutes flat

Was at a game night in Austin last Saturday. One guy kept trading resources with everyone except me, then got super defensive when I blocked his road. Do you let grudges carry over between games or reset after each round?

Hmm, I gotta respectfully push back a little because I kind of think grudges make the game more interesting. If you cut me off from resources one round, you better believe I'm watching your moves next game and maybe blocking you right back when it matters. It adds a layer of personal strategy, you know, like real negotiations where people remember who screwed them over. That said, I draw the line at actual anger or yelling, once the dice stop rolling it's all just fun banter.

Wait you seriously hold grudges from one game into the next that's wild

Oh man, I actually heard a podcast recently about how people's brains treat board games different from real life... something about competition lighting up the same areas as actual conflict. I totally get the grudge thing though, a little bit of friendly revenge between rounds makes it more interesting as long as nobody actually gets mad.
