Rant: The board game cafe near me went from packed to empty in 6 months

I used to go to this place called Dice & Dine over on 5th street where you'd wait 30 minutes for a table on Friday nights, but now I walk in and there's maybe two other groups. The owner told me they stopped hosting weekly tournaments and switched to just selling drinks, which I think killed the vibe. Anyone else see a local game spot fall off after they changed up what made it work?

Man, same thing happened to my favorite spot. They stopped the game nights and it just died.

Oh actually it wasn't the game nights that killed it in our case. The owner started charging a cover fee on weekends and that's what really drove people away. Game nights were still happening but nobody wanted to pay just to walk in the door.

Quote brian about it just dying. Totally agree. Once you lose the thing that made the place special, it's almost impossible to get people back. I've seen it happen to a few spots over the years. The regulars leave first, then the casual crowd stops coming, and before you know it the place is empty on a Friday night. It's a real shame because game nights built a community, not just customers. Take this with a grain of salt, but I think a lot of owners don't realize that until it's too late.
