Learned dice drafting backwards after 60 games of Seasons

Been playing Seasons with my group for about 2 years. Always thought you grab dice in the order you want them. Turns out the draft is supposed to be simultaneous and you pick based on what you think opponents will take. My buddy pointed it out during our Sunday game. Felt like an idiot. 60 games with the wrong rule. Has anyone else played something for that long and missed a core rule?
