I finally hit 100 unique board games played and it felt weird

Everyone always talks about hitting big numbers like 500 or 1000 games, but for me crossing 100 was the real surprise. I've been tracking my plays for about 3 years and last Saturday I logged my 100th different game, which was some obscure card game called 'The Crew' at a friend's house. What got me is how many of those games I only played once or twice, but they still left a mark on how I think about mechanics and player interaction. Does anyone else feel like the early milestones mean more than the big round numbers?

Huh, that's actually a really interesting way to look at it. But I think the weird part about hitting 100 is how it forces you to realize most games are basically the same mechanisms recycled. Like after 100 games you start seeing the same worker placement or deck building bones everywhere. The Crew is a good example because it's just trick taking with a twist, but that twist feels fresh when you haven't seen much. After you've seen 100 games though, that "twist" starts looking like a pattern.

Yeah, I remember reading somewhere that the first 100 games really shape your tastes more than the next 400 or something like that. Like, it's where you figure out what you actually enjoy versus what everyone says is good. For me, hitting 50 felt way bigger than 100 actually, maybe because it was when I realized I was past just being a casual player. The Crew is a solid pick for that milestone by the way, that game really changed how I think about cooperative play and communication.
