Gateway games actually work, I was a skeptic for 6 years

I used to roll my eyes at people pushing Catan on newbies, but after running a 4 player intro night last month with total non-gamers, two of them bought their own copies. Has anyone else had a group that actually moved past gateway stuff, or are we just making them comfortable with one game forever?

I heard a podcast once where they called Catan the "gateway drug" of board games, and honestly that's what it felt like... once those two bought their copies, we ended up playing it every week for a month straight.
