Found my old Settlers of Catan box in the attic and it's a time capsule of my game group

I was cleaning out my parents' attic in St. Louis last month and pulled out my original copy of Settlers of Catan from 2008. The box is all sun-faded, and inside there's a pizza grease stain on the desert hex. But the real find was the score pad tucked under the rulebook. It's from a game night in 2010, with all our terrible handwriting and inside jokes scribbled in the margins. My friend Mike wrote 'wheat for sheep?' next to his name like it was a deep trade offer. It just hit me how that one game box holds like five years of Friday nights with the same six people. We stopped playing regularly when people moved away for jobs around 2015. Looking at those old scores and dumb notes made me really miss having a steady crew. How many of you have kept old game boxes with stuff like that inside?

My buddy Dave had a copy of Risk with the 2003 map. He kept it in his basement and the box was basically a scrapbook. Someone had drawn a mustache on Napoleon, and all the little cards had notes like "never trust Kevin with Australia" on the back. The whole thing smelled like basement and cheap soda. He found it when he moved last year and just sat on the floor reading all those old insults for an hour.
