Finally won a game of Warhammer 40k at my local shop after 8 months of losing

I've been playing at Tabletop Haven every Wednesday since January and I always got tabled by turn 3. Last night my Necrons held the center objective against a space marine army for the whole game. My opponent even said "dude your reanimation rolls were on fire" which felt great. Has anyone else had a breakout game that made all the practice click?

My first win with my Blood Angels took me a solid 10 months at my local shop. I remember my opponent was a veteran player who ran Dark Angels, and I finally managed to lock down the backfield objective with some Death Company. He just nodded and said "you've been paying attention to the scoring, good job." That moment made me realize it was more about playing the mission than winning the fight. Keep at it, the wins feel even better after all those losses.

your reanimation rolls were on fire" - that's the kind of compliment you don't forget. So what changed for you? Was it a list tweak or did you start playing the objectives different? I'm curious because I've been stuck losing with my Orks for like six months now and I keep thinking it's my list but maybe I'm just playing wrong.

Man, I gotta push back a little on that @ray801 advice... focusing on the mission is fine but if your army can't hold its own in a fight then objectives don't matter much either. Those reanimation rolls weren't just luck, they came from me finally positioning my warriors where they could actually get cover and support each other. You gotta find that balance where your list can take a punch and still play the mission.
