Choosing between a 3 hour game night and a big tournament

My local group in Portland had a regular game night scheduled for Friday, but a regional tournament for Scythe popped up on the same day. I picked the tournament, drove two hours, and got knocked out in the second round. Should I have just stuck with the casual group?

Hey @hollyc92 is right, but Scythe tournaments are usually single elimination so you actually got knocked out in the first round!

Wait, wait, single elimination all the way through for Scythe? That seems harsh. I figured with all that engine building and resource management there'd be a losers bracket or something to give folks a second shot. Based on the tournaments I've seen for games like that, they usually have some kind of double elimination setup so you don't get sent home after one bad roll or misplay.
