Tried annealing with a digital temp gun instead of color watching and my blade came out softer than warm butter

Thought I was being smart taking the guesswork out of it but the gun was reading the scale not the steel, has anyone else had this happen with infrared thermometers?

Yeah 12 bucks at Harbor Freight and I learned that lesson the hard way too.

Had a buddy forget his voltmeter last week. @andrew_rodriguez knows what's up.

You really think Harbor Freight is the answer? @kaid59, I've seen those cheap voltmeters read 12 volts on a DEAD battery. My buddy used one and thought his alternator was fine, next week his truck died on the highway. Spend twenty bucks on a Fluke or at least a Klein, it's not worth burning out your starter guessing. I'd rather walk to AutoZone than trust a five dollar tool for something that could leave you STRANDED.
