Showerthought: I started using a piece of old conveyor belt as a heat shield for my anvil's horn and it's saved my leg from a few nasty burns.
After getting a second-degree burn from accidentally brushing against the hot horn while working on a scroll, I cut a section from a scrapped belt at work and clamped it on, which blocks radiant heat way better than the leather apron alone.

That's actually brilliant, used to think leather was enough.

Yeah, that's a solid fix. I did something similar with a scrap of fire blanket behind my forge, same idea. Leather just doesn't cut it for that kind of heat.

Wait, you were using leather near a forge? That's wild. I've seen leather aprons catch a stray spark and smolder for minutes. Fire blanket scraps are way smarter, they can take direct flame without issue.
