Rebuilt my coal forge and the draft is completely off now
I followed the plans to the letter, but it just won't draw right. So annoyed that my shop is full of smoke every time I light it!

You followed the plans exactly and it still smokes up your shop? It's wild because the draft should be simple if you copy the design. Are you sure the chimney is lined up right? A tiny gap can mess up the whole draw. I had smoke everywhere last year until I fixed the seal around my firepot. Did you double check the stack height? Being off by a little bit can ruin the suction.

Last week's Popular Mechanics had a whole section on how weather ruins forge draft. Low barometric pressure kills suction no matter how perfect your build is. Sometimes the problem is outside your shop, not in it.
