Heard a story from a guy in Toledo about a cracked anvil causing a bad injury
He said his friend was using a 150 pound Fisher anvil that had a hidden crack in the base. It split during a heavy forging session and a piece flew off, hitting his leg. I looked it up and found an old article from the ABANA forum about checking for ring and rebound. How often do you all check your anvils for cracks?

Yeah, checking hammer heads is smart, but that's different from an anvil crack. A brass tap won't find a hidden crack in the base. You really need to check the ring and rebound like the old article said.

Man, that's scary stuff. It reminds me of the time at a demo where a guy's old hammer head just came apart on the third swing. The eye was worn paper thin and we never saw it. Sent a chunk of steel right through a plywood safety screen. Ever since then, I tap my hammer heads with a little brass rod before I start for the day, listening for a weird buzz. You just can't take old iron for granted.

Ever think about how much we trust old tools? That hammer story is a solid reminder. Gotta respect the metal.
