Debate: should I have taken the $900 rush job at the Ren Faire or stuck with my regular orders?
Last Saturday I had 14 hooks and a gate half done for a customer in Tulsa when a guy from the Ren Faire offered me $900 cash to bang out 20 tent stakes by Sunday morning. I said no and finished the gate, but my buddy Dale took the gig and cleared more in two days than I did all month. Part of me thinks steady work and a good name beat chasing quick money, but the other part watched him count that cash and felt pretty dumb. Where do you all draw the line between keeping your word to regulars and grabbing a payday when it lands in your lap?
Dale cleared more in two days but he also had 14 hooks waiting on him when he got back, and those regulars remember stuff like that. That $900 spends fast, a good name keeps paying.
