Bought a cheap anvil off Facebook Marketplace and actually got a solid deal for once
I've been hearing horror stories for years about people getting junk cast iron anvils dressed up to look like old steel ones. Found a 150 pounder listed for 200 bucks by a guy in Salem who said it was his granddad's. Drove out there expecting a boat anchor but he let me hit it with a ball peen hammer first. Ring was clear and the rebound was better than my current one. Sometimes the skeptical route pays off but I still don't trust most of those listings. Has anyone else actually scored a good anvil from a random online post?

My buddy Tom picked up a 120 pounder off Craigslist for 150 bucks a few years back. Seller was clearing out an old barn and didn't know what they had, so Tom got it cheap with a good ring and no cracks. Still uses it every weekend in his garage and says it was the best gamble he ever took.

@bettyfox That "doesn't know what they had" part always gets me. Did Tom check the ring before he bought it or just gamble on the sound? I've seen people drive hours for a deal like that and end up with junk.
