The way people skip the first 3 episodes of every new show is driving me nuts

My roommate last night started a new Netflix series and skipped straight to episode 4 because she said the setup was boring. I pointed out that episode 2 literally sets up the main character's backstory with her dad and she just shrugged. I think people are so used to fast pacing that they forget shows need time to breathe. Like The Bear would be nothing without those early kitchen meltdowns in season 1. Has anyone else noticed this trend ruining the payoff for later episodes?

Started a new Netflix series and skipped straight to episode 4" is honestly wild, but I gotta say your example with The Bear is a little off. The early kitchen meltdowns in season 1 are actually in episodes 3 and beyond, not the first couple. Episode 1 is more about Carmy coming home and the chaos of the beef joint, while episode 2 is the one where Richie gets in a fight and it's just messy. So skipping those first few episodes does ruin the buildup, but the payoff from the meltdowns hits way later than episode 2 or 3 anyway. Like, the whole point of those early eps is to set up why everyone's so broken by season 2.

My brother skipped the pilot of Lost and then complained nothing made sense.
