That one friend who fast-forwards every show, I finally get it now
Last month my buddy Dave skipped all the slow parts of The Bear season 2, said he only watches for the kitchen chaos. I argued with him for 20 minutes about missing the character stuff, but then I tried it on a rewatch and honestly it changed the whole pace for me. Anyone else got a friend with a weird watch habit that kinda makes sense after you try it?

The part about "missing the character stuff" hit home for me... my roommate does this with everything, even movies. He'll watch the first 10 minutes, skip to the last 20, and call it a complete watch. I used to get so annoyed, but then I tried it on a long series I was re-watching and realized it's actually a good way to get through the boring setup episodes you've already seen. Now I just set a rule for myself: first watch is always full, but second watch is fair game for skipping. It's like you get the context the first time so you can enjoy just the payoff after that.

First watch is always full, but second watch is fair game" that's a solid system. I read somewhere that our brains actually reward us more for the payoff when we remember the setup, so skipping on a rewatch makes sense. Totally get it, @dianal94, your roommate might be onto something for the second pass, but I'd still side-eye anyone doing that on a first watch.
