Actually, what if it's also because she gets to stop being the host for a minute? In real life, she's probably running around making sure everyone's okay and keeping the peace. But watching a TV family's messy reunion, she's just another person in the room. She doesn't have to fix anything or smooth it over. That alone is enough to make someone cry, lol.
