Hot take: 'The Wire' gets worse after season 2 and I finally said it out loud at a watch party in Columbus
Everyone at the party kept telling me I was wrong, but I stand by it. I was at my friend Dave's place on a Friday night, we were four episodes into season 3, and I said it out loud: the docks storyline in season 2 was the best part and the show never topped it. Dave got so mad he paused the TV and pulled up a ranking list on his phone to prove me wrong. We spent 45 minutes arguing about it instead of watching the show, and two people left early. So what season do you think is the high point, and am I really the only one who thinks the later seasons coast on reputation?
Season 4 is the best one, hands down, and most people who really know the show would back me up on that. The later seasons weren't coasting either, they were just telling a bigger story about the whole city instead of one corner of it.
