Hot take: A full series binge turned my black-and-white view of a character totally gray

I thought the lead was just selfish for leaving his team behind in that heist scene. Seeing every episode in one weekend showed the constant betrayals he endured from the start. When he later risked everything to get a rival's daughter to safety, I had to admit his morals were messy, not absent. Now I catch myself debating his choices with friends instead of dismissing him.

Classic binge-watch logic, where your judgment gets as blurry as your eyes at 3 a.m. So now we're out here giving moral passes to fictional criminals, huh? What's next, arguing that the villain just needed a hug?

Have you ever found yourself making excuses for a TV show character after watching too many episodes in one go? I used to do that all the time... like I'd justify their awful choices because I saw their backstory. What helped me was taking breaks between seasons to clear my head and remember it's just a story. Otherwise, I'd get so wrapped up in their world that my own morals got fuzzy. Now I try to watch with friends so we can keep each other in check when the sympathy goes too far.

Did binge-watching that drama make me excuse the lead's selfish choices too?
