DAE get halfway through a show and realize you missed a whole plot point because you were on your phone?
I was three episodes into a mystery show on Netflix last Tuesday, sitting on my couch with my phone in my hand the whole time. Around episode four I had no idea who the killer was or why the detective kept saying "the cabin." So I backed up to episode two and watched it again without my phone, and it turned out they explained everything in a two minute scene at a gas station. Now I put my phone in the kitchen when I start a new show, and I actually follow what's happening. Does anyone else have a show they had to restart from the beginning because you zoned out too much?
Your fix of putting the phone in the kitchen is solid but I don't buy that the phone is always the problem. Some of these shows just bury the important stuff in a quick scene and then act like we should all remember it ten hours later. A two minute gas station talk should not be the only place the whole mystery gets explained, that is on the writers too. I have definitely zoned out during slow parts of shows, but half the time it is because the show gave me no reason to pay close attention. Now I just rewind right when I feel lost instead of blaming myself for looking at my phone for a minute.
