Binged 8 episodes of a show and realized I wasted 6 hours

I spent last Saturday glued to a Netflix series that had great reviews, but by episode 8 I realized nothing had happened and the plot was going nowhere. Lost a whole Saturday afternoon and felt super annoyed at myself for not checking out sooner. Anyone else fall for a show with a good trailer but zero payoff?

Wait is it really 8 episodes though? I feel like most streaming shows these days are only 6 episodes for the first season, or sometimes 10. Maybe I'm misremembering but 8 seems kinda specific. I've totally been there though, I started watching this one show about a high school mystery and by episode 5 I was like "wait none of these clues are going anywhere." It's frustrating when a trailer makes it look like there's a big payoff and then it's just people talking in rooms for hours.

Nah I actually really like slower paced shows that focus on character moments instead of rushing to a solved mystery.

The one that got me was that "Dark" show everyone said was AMAZING. Three seasons of people frowning in the woods and some time travel nonsense. I watched the whole thing waiting for the part where it all clicked and it NEVER DID. My buddy kept saying "just wait until season 2" and then season 2 ended and I was like wait what about the thing with the kid. By season 3 I was just watching out of spite, hoping the last episode would finally make me feel smart. It didn't. But hey at least I can now tell people I watched Dark.
