Watched a 3 minute ASMR cake video become a 6 hour drama about stolen audio

My sister sent me this cake decorating video that had like 2 million views. I thought it was just relaxing to watch. Then I noticed the comments were all about how the scraping sounds were lifted from some Japanese creator from 2019. I spent my whole Sunday going down that rabbit hole. Turns out the original creator never got credit and the reposter made like $4,000 off ads before it got flagged. Has anyone else fallen into one of those viral dramas where the backstory was way bigger than the actual video?

My husband got sucked into a whole thing about a cat video that turned out to be stolen from someone's pet memorial page. The thief had changed the music and added their own logo, but commenters recognized the cat's unique eye patch from years ago.
