The difference between my DIY reel and a pro's reel was the story arc

I spent 3 hours cutting clips randomly for my travel reel and got 200 views. Then I copied a creator who structured hers like a mini story - setup, conflict, resolution - and it hit 12k in two days. Is the storytelling framework really what makes stuff go viral or is it just luck?

storytelling is a hack tbh. i threw random b-roll into a timeline for months and got nowhere. the moment i started with a clear problem (lost my wallet in a foreign city) then showed the search and the relief when a local helped me find it, engagement tripled. structure forces you to cut the boring parts and keep viewers watching till the end for payoff. luck plays a role but a good arc makes the algorithm serve your vid to people who actually finish it.

Read a study that said viewers stick around 40% longer with a clear story arc.

Its actually the payoff that matters more than the setup. People will sit through a dull opening if they trust theres a satisfying ending coming. Luck gets you noticed but story structure is what keeps the algorithm happy cause it tracks watch time retention.
