The day my neighborhood Facebook page stopped being useful

I moved into my place in Austin about 3 years ago and that first year, the neighborhood Facebook group was gold. People posted about stolen packages, lost dogs, actual emergency alerts. Fast forward to this spring and it turned into a nonstop feed of people complaining about kids on scooters and asking if anyone heard a weird noise at 2am. I realized the shift happened when the original admins stepped down and a new set took over who didnt enforce the rules. Now it's just drama and petty gripes instead of anything helpful. Has anyone else watched their local forum go downhill like this?

Appreciate the detailed breakdown but I wonder if this is really as big of a deal as you're making it. Every online group has its ups and downs, especially when new people take over. I've seen this same cycle happen in three different neighborhood groups I've been in over the years. Usually the nonsense dies down after a few months once people get bored or the admins start actually moderating again.

Three years is a pretty short time to call it "that first year" like it was ages ago.
