The 11 a.m. line outside that small bakery in Austin was pure marketing genius
I waited 20 minutes for a croissant and watched the owner hand out free samples to everyone in line, which got posted on TikTok by like 4 different people that day. Has anyone else noticed places creating fake scarcity on purpose, or was this just a lucky break?

Watch the timing on this one. Free samples during peak line hours is a pretty standard bakery move to keep people from leaving, not necessarily fake scarcity. Real scarcity is when they run out by 9 a.m. on a Tuesday with no samples out. The TikTok thing though, that part was probably intentional. Owners absolutely know when people are filming and will play it up. But 20 minutes for a good croissant in Austin isn't crazy, that place is just popular because it's actually good.
