That 300 rep TikTok dance challenge taught me a dumb trick about lighting

So last week I tried to film one of those trending dance videos for my small account and the lighting was so bad you couldnt even see my moves. After like 4 failed attempts I realized if I put my ring light behind my phone at a 45 degree angle instead of just in front it completely changed everything. The shadows on my face vanished and the video actually looked decent. Has anyone else found a random lighting hack that totally changed their content game?

Yeah I actually heard someone say bouncing light off a white wall works better than direct ring lights for avoiding those harsh raccoon eyes. Did you try that trick yet?

Wait, people are actually doing that? I'm shook... I've been sitting here with a ring light blinding myself for months like an idiot.

The wall bounce trick is honestly life changing once you try it. Just aim your ring light at a white wall at a 45 degree angle and the whole room lights up soft and even. No more squinting like a vampire caught in sunlight. You can also tape a piece of printer paper over your light to diffuse it even more if the wall isn't giving enough bounce. I've been doing this for a few weeks now and my video calls actually look human instead of like I'm being interrogated by the FBI. Plus your eyes won't feel like sandpaper after an hour of calls.
