Spent $40 on a 'viral' hashtag tracker and it just showed me my own posts

I wanted to see what was trending in my niche, so I bought this tool that promised to find hidden viral patterns. Turns out it just scraped my own feed and highlighted stuff I already posted. Has anyone found a tool that actually gives you new info, or is it all just repackaged data?

What niche are you in? I've seen some tools work okay for bigger, general topics but completely fail for smaller, specific communities.

Actually @janac22, I've had the opposite happen. The tool I use crushed it for my tiny vintage motorcycle parts forum but was useless trying to follow big news topics. It seems to really depend on how the tool is built to find conversations.
